EUH2STARS
EUH2STARS is partially funded by the Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, through the Horizon Europe support programme, for the demonstration of large-scale underground hydrogen storage in a technically and economically efficient way, supporting the objectives of the REPowerEU Plan and the EU Hydrogen Strategy.
The final objective of the project is to demonstrate the feasibility of underground hydrogen storage in depleted reservoirs up to TRL 8. To this end, four hydrogen injection and extraction cycles will be carried out at the demonstrator, Rubensdorf, located in Austria, and operated by RAG.
Learnings acquired at Rubensdorf will be integrated into three European sites with different characteristics, located in the Netherlands, Hungary and Spain, facilitating the energy transition of future European energy systems.
EUH2STAR started in January 2024, and has an estimated duration of 69 months. The project is being developed by twelve top-level European companies and universities.
